Tuning is the adjusting of the tension of the piano's strings so that they produce the proper pitch. Seasonal changes in humidity as well as the combined tension of the strings will cause a piano to drift out of tune over time. Pianos should be tuned every six to twelve months. Pianos that haven't been tuned for two years or more will likely need a pitch-raise tuning prior to the fine tuning.

Before purchasing a used piano it is usually a good idea to have it professionally inspected. A technician will be able to tell you what work the piano needs or will need in the near future. Many older pianos are beyond repair.

Regulation is the adjusting of the piano's action to achieve optimal performance. While this is largely concerned with touch, it has implications for the tone of the piano as well.

Over time any piano and its parts will begin to wear out. Many of the pianos we encounter are decades old. Depending on factors such as use and maintenance, these instruments are in varying states of disrepair. Some pianos lose their ability to hold a tune as the pins become loose in the block. Others, become incapable of producing a pleasing musical tone. Restoration addresses these issues which are vital to the enjoyment of your piano.

Maintaining consistent humidity around your piano is very important to both its tuning stability and longevity. This protects the important structural components of the piano from unnecessary expansion and contraction. When it is difficult to control the humidity in your home, a humidity control system can be installed in the piano itself, thereby increasing stability and prolonging the piano's life.  Many issues such as sticking keys are easily dealt with at the time of your tuning appointment. In rare instances, parts will need to be ordered to properly complete a repair. Upon inspection, Drew can give you an estimate on what your piano will need to be brought back into good playing condition.
